GC Rieber Shipping has owned and operated seismic vessels since late in the 1960s, with many years of experience from a huge number of operations around the globe, including the Canadian High Arctic and Antarctica.
The company’s current involvement in marine seismic includes
- Ownership of the 3D seismic vessel “Geo Atlantic”
- Ownership of the 2D/ice seismic vessel "Geo Explorer"
- Strategic shareholding of 73% in Octio Group, which specializes in permanent monitoring of oilfields.
- Marine ship management for nine offshore vessels for other owners.
The other partners in Octio Group are StatoilHydro Venture and Reservoir Innovation. Octio Group is headquartered in Bergen (Norway) and is currently in a commercialisation phase. Octio Group focus on permanent monitoring of existing oil and gas fields to ensure both increased extraction and a reduction of environmental and safety risks. Octio Group is a small player in a market where the competitors are few. Octio Geophysical has however exclusive rights to a proven sensor technology from the market leader ION Geophysical with significant potential.
